Tea Recipe: Rock & Rye Punch

Lately, I’ve become obsessed with an old drink called Rock & Rye. It has begun making a comeback, showing up on store shelves more frequently than in the past years.

My first experience with this not so popular beverage was with my Irish grandmother, who would always advise my mom to give it to us kids whenever we had a cough (although I don’t think she ever actually gave it to us). After some research, this was actually a fairly normal practice. In order for companies to skirt the oppressive taxes brought about by restrictions, many Rock & Rye makers started marketing it as medicine rather than a beverage!

Rock & Rye is great by itself but it would taste even better with a little bit of tea.  Here’s a great way to dip your foot in the Rock & Rye pool:

Tea Recipe to Make ROCK & RYE PUNCH

  • 2 oz. Crimson Punch tea, chilled
  • 1 1⁄2 oz. Rock & Rye
  • 1⁄2 oz. aged rum
  • 1⁄2 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 1 slice orange, garnish
  • 1 brandied cherry, garnish

Stir together tea, Rock & Rye, rum, and juice in an old-fashioned glass. Add ice, and garnish with orange slice and brandied cherry.
